Fully featured auto Navigation has developed far beyond the simple GPS/ map based direction systems, which have been available on the New Zealand market. The BMW Navigation system is now able to plot and guide you from your location to a chosen destination by a variety of routes according to your wishes and also able to re-plot if an intersection is missed or traffic congestion forces a detour.
Navigation is accessed through the iDrive controller, selecting the function from the main set of iDrive menus displayed on the in dash monitor. In those BMW models that feature voice activation for many such commands, it as also possible to select Navigation simply by verbal instruction.
In other BMW models, depending on the system's specification level, Navigation is accessed via the on-board monitor, or the radio screen respectively, from which the user chooses his or her destination from a list of street names.
