BMW CELEBRATES CENTENNIAL AS NUMBER ONE IN THE PREMIUM SEGMENT

The year has continued in winning style for BMW in New Zealand, with the latest Motor Industry Association data confirming the brand as the number one premium marque in the country with 591 units registered in the first quarter.

MINI, the world’s most iconic small car brand, also opened the quarter in a strong fashion achieving 169 registrations.

“BMW enjoyed a great start to 2016, claiming leadership of the segment right from the opening month,” said the Managing Director of BMW Group New Zealand, Florian Renndorfer.

“We have continued to build on this momentum and have enjoyed equally as successful February and March results which have seen us claim top spot amongst premium competitors.

“This is a particularly poignant achievement as we celebrated the centennial of the company in March, so it’s fantastic to be number one in the same month we turn 100 years old.”

The year has been a busy one for BMW, with a slew of new model launch activity including the BMW 7 Series and BMW M2, as well as significant fleet placements including 36 units of the 2015 AA New Zealand Motoring Writers Guild Car of the Year, the BMW i3, to Air New Zealand.

“The BMW 7 Series and M2 are part of our launch plans which will see in excess of ten new models, vehicle updates and powertrain enhancements brought to market throughout the year,” said Mr Renndorfer.

“I personally can’t wait for the impending arrival of the incredible new BMW M4 GTS, a new 420i Gran Coupe and also the launch of new BMW iPerformance PHEV models in Q3 which will offer even greater opportunities for sustainable personal mobility solutions.”

To coincide with the outstanding first quarter result, BMW has also released details of an exciting new event which will see all BMW M sedan and coupe models available for enthusiasts to experience.

“The BMW M Festival Driving Experience will take place at Hampton Downs in May and June and is a fantastic opportunity for people to put a variety of BMW M models to the test in their natural environment,” said Mr Renndorfer.

“This is the first time in New Zealand that drivers will get to experience a comprehensive selection of M vehicles on the race track.

“The event will mark the official debut of the new BMW M2 Coupe, a dynamic new model which will be sure to further enhance New Zealander’s love of BMW M.”
